QUESTIONS

The Chiltern Roadshow is often asked the same questions when clients are booking events. Below are the most common questions and answers which will hopefully provide some clarity before you book. If you are unable to find the answer to your question here, please feel free to contact us and we can discuss your specific requirements.

The Chiltern Roadshow will customise the event to suit you. Whatever you require we can provide a service which we believe can't be beaten. We pride ourselves on the ability to ensure that everyone has a great time, and that you will promote our service to others in the future.

With a professional sound, light and DVD system, a large music and video collection and personal attention to detail, The Chiltern Roadshow will make your party the success it should be. We will MC your function, involve guests in dancing and co-ordinate special events (like speeches, cake-cutting, special announcements, quizzes etc). We will also work with other professionals (i.e. caterer, photographer, videographer, band etc) to ensure the smooth running of your event.

Do I pay a deposit?
When you book The Chiltern Roadshow will issue a booking form, which you will need to return together with a £50 deposit - This is non-refundable. The event is only booked when the contract is returned signed, together with the deposit.

Are there any venues we do not work at?

Sound Limiters:
The Chiltern Roadshow will not work at venues that have sound limiters installed. A sound limiter cuts the power to the disco, plunging the room into darkness and silence if the volume gets too loud. It is next to impossible to keep you levels constant through the night due to variations in song recoeding levels, shouting, clapping etc. Instant loss of power is not recommended with computer controlled sound and lighting, in addition to the fact there is often little atmosphere due to the room being too quiet. It is with regret that we do not work in such venues.

Ground floor only:
The Chiltern Roadshow will not work upstairs in a venue unless there is a substantial lift. If we arrive at a venue and the lift is out of order, it is not possible to carry equipment upstairs due to weight and size of our equipment.

How many people will be there from The Chiltern Roadshow?
There will be two of us. Rob will be the DJ, Compere or Master of Ceremonies and there will be a lighting and video technician. We do not act as an agency or on behalf of other discos, so when you book the Chiltern Roadshow - you get the Chiltern Roadshow!

What type of audio and lighting equipment will be used?
The Chiltern Roadshow uses only professional digital sound and the latest lighting equipment - see the technical pages for more information.

What range of music do we carry?
The Chiltern Roadshow has an extensive music and DVD library which contains music from all genres, and exceeds 30,000 songs on both CD and digital media formats. We receive advance promotional singles and DVD's keeping us up to date all the time. We also have a huge back catalogue of music across all genres. If you would like a specific song played, please contact us before the show so that we ensure it is available.

Can the disco carry on past the agreed finishing time?
The Chiltern Roadshow can provide entertainment after an agreed finish time if the venue is happy to accommodate it.
The Chiltern Roadshow will charge for additional hours, as we have to pay our team. Details of the charge are provided as part of the booking terms and conditions.

Are we insured (PAT & PLI)?
The Chiltern Roadshow carries £2m public liability insurance - even though we have never needed to use it! PAT certificated required for some venues are available for inspection if required. Please contact us if you require further details or clarification.

What music will be played at my function?
The Chiltern Roadshow plays well known songs, as well as requests made by you and your guests. On our booking contract, you can indicate specific musical requests and what styles of music you feel are appropriate (and also what styles are inappropriate) for your function. We will use this information along with professional judgement to select music and in honouring or declining specific requests. We can also provide request slips on the tables if required.

What if I request music that The Chiltern Roadshow doesn't own?
The Chiltern Roadshow's music collection is large and includes most common requests. However, if you give an advance request for music that we do not have, we will make every effort to obtain it for your function.
The further in advance we receive the request, the more likely we'll be able to get it. We can also play music from CD's supplied by you or your guests.

Do we take requests?
Yes! We welcome requests either on the night or in advance. The Chiltern Roadshow will select the right time to play the requests, however, in some circumstances we will not play a song (unless specifically requested by the organiser) if it will not fit in with the style of the event.

iPod Discos?
Some people ask us why we need a disco when they have an iPod.... Simple. We understand disco's, and know what does and doesn't work. Trust us - having an iPod disco may seem like a great idea, but spending the whole night using an iPod trying to find the right song without leaving a gap isn't a large amount of fun, and we will guarantee your back will be agony the next day!

Why should I use a Disco Instead of a live band?
There are a number of reasons why a disco is better than a band:

Reliability - Mobile Disco's have less people to rely on to provide a good performance.
Variety - The Chiltern Roadshow carries about 30,000 tracks, bands are limited to their set.
Continuity - The Chiltern Roadshow does not take breaks - bands do.
Volume - A disco can control the volume far better than a band.
Lightshow - Bands rarely offer dance-floor lighting.

Can I have a band and a disco?
Yes! We work closely with bands and agree when they will play and when we will provide a disco. The Chiltern Roadshow can also arrange for the band to use our PA sound system, reducing the amount of equipment required, and the space taken up.

Typically the evening will work as follows:
Disco starts evening entertainment (8pm - 9pm)
Band 1st set (9pm - 9.45pm)
Disco while band takes break (9.45pm - 10.15pm)
Band 2nd set (10.15pm - 11.00pm)
Disco to finish evening (11pm - 12am)

We suggest that you only book a band and a disco if you have time to fit it all in. For a event that finishes at midnight, you really need to get the entertainment started by 8pm, otherwise either the band or the disco will have very little time to entertain - and you don't get value for money!

Do we do competitions/quizzes?
The Chiltern Roadshow have a selection of competitions and quizzes available for use. This can be either Music or General Knowledge based. Please contact us to discuss the details of your event with us, and we can arrange for an interval quiz to take place. We have even done a 'Bride & Groom' quiz at a wedding! The Chiltern Roadshow can supply prizes at an extra cost.
